Dare I say that I was a little disappointed with the second season of Orange is the New Black. I discovered the show three weeks ago and binge-watched my way through the first season in a few short days. I couldn’t wait until the second season, and was eagerly counting down the days…
Maybe I was looking forward to it too much, so it was almost inevitable that it wouldn’t quite live up to my expectations. I thought Season 1 was super fast paced. I had no idea what was going to happen next and I was on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns. The characters were strong and edgy.
I think Season 2 got too bogged down in the details of the characters’ back stories, which slowed the flow of the plot for me. I found the constant flashbacks irritating and disruptive.
Season 1 was edgy and different, I really felt like I was right there with the characters, feeling their pain, routing for them to survive, but Season 2 drifted into the typical prison yarn with the rift caused by Vee and her gang. I truly did not like Vee’s character, and found her to be a pointless addition to the story. I would have preferred to have seen more of Alex Vauss.
Whereas Season 1 ended explosively, Season 2’s ending was almost farcical! However, I was glad to see the back of Vee: at least, I hope it’s the back of her, but you never know…
Having said of all that, I still think it’s a brilliant show, and I did enjoy it. My favourite storyline was the revelation that Lorna Morello is a stalker and attempted murderer! That was shocking and riveting.
So what did you think if Season 2? What were your best and worst bits?
